弹性套柱销联轴器曾经是我国应用最广泛的联轴器，早在20世纪50年代末期即已制订为机械部标准，JB08-60弹性圈柱销联轴器，是我国第一个部标准联轴器。那么弹性套柱销联轴器中的弹性套的作用是什么？
1.定位作用。一般是说轴用挡圈或孔用挡圈，如是垫圈，可以说弹性垫圈或弹性垫片，可以增加预紧力；
2.聚氨酯弹性套本身具有塑料的高强度又具有橡胶的高弹性，所以强度高，耐磨，耐油；
3.弹性套柱销联轴器虽可补偿轴线位移和弹性，但轴线位移许用补偿量较少，弹性较弱；
4.弹性套柱销联轴器中的弹性套就是弹性联接，可以弥补装配上有限的缺陷、保护主要零配件 、维修更换方便；
5.弹性套柱销联轴器是依靠柱销组的锁紧力而产生于接触面的摩擦力矩，并压缩橡胶弹性套来传递转矩；
6.弹性套柱销联轴器的柱销上套有橡胶圈，具有弹性和补偿轴线位移的能力，但相对角位移较大时，易磨损。
