润滑油脂在长期贮存中会发生氧化而变质。为防止存储油品的氧化变质，在储存中必须注意以下几个方面：
1.避免金属与润滑油脂的直接接触，贮存的油品本身和容器要洁净，使油品不接触或少接触促进油品氧化的金属及金属离子。
2.适当的存储温度。温度过高，会加速氧化反应过程，因此，尽量选择阴凉地点存放润滑油脂。
3.避免污染，尤其避免接触使油中添加剂失效的物质，如水，各种有害金属等。对一些添加剂活性较强的油品，应该尽量减少存储时间。
4.密封的环境，尽量少与空气接触。采用有效措施进行密封贮存不仅可以减少与空气接触，还可以防止污染物侵入。
5.避免阳光直射，避免放置湿气容易侵蚀的地方，尽量避免油品长期储存。
